Einkaufen in den Niederlanden
How much does a kWh cost in the Netherlands?
The price per kilowatt hour (kWh) of electricity in the Netherlands depends on the type of contract and the supplier. It consists of the delivery price, Energy Tax (Energiebelasting) and VAT.
As of early 2026, the average prices for new contracts are approximately:
-
around €0.22–€0.25 per kWh for 1-year or multi-year fixed contracts
-
around €0.26–€0.28 per kWh for variable or dynamic tariffs
The above prices already include all taxes and levies.
In addition, monthly base or connection fees of approximately €5 to €7 apply.
Since 1 January 2026, the Energy Tax on electricity amounts to €0.111 per kWh (previously €0.123). The tax applies up to an annual consumption of 10,000 kWh per connection (up to 3×80 amperes). 21% VAT is charged on the total amount. Households also receive an annual fixed tax reduction, which is credited via the annual energy bill.
As market prices and government levies change regularly, electricity prices may vary from year to year. Regular price comparisons are recommended.
